8. Application Scope

The RF series is intended for taped SMT components supplied on embossed or paper carrier tapes. It is suitable for production lines where precise pick-up position, stable tape feeding and correct cover tape handling are required.

Common applications include EMS production, consumer electronics assembly, industrial control boards, automotive electronics subassemblies and mixed-model contract manufacturing.

9. Upper Cover Replacement and Configuration

The manual includes a dedicated procedure for replacing the upper cover according to component size and feed pitch. This is an important adjustment point for maintaining stable tape transport and correct feeding behavior.

Operation Point Details
Disassembly Loosen the screw and remove the upper pusher plate and spring carefully.
Cover removal Raise the upper cover hook and remove the upper cover.
Grease application Apply Alvania EP-2 grease to the U-groove using a cotton swab. Do not apply grease to the upper surface of the frame.
Reassembly Install the suitable upper cover in reverse order and tighten the screw to 0.29 N·m.

10. Peel Plate Positioning

Correct peel plate positioning is one of the most important setup points in the RF series. The peel plate position must match the selected feed pitch to maintain correct component supply location.

RF12AS / RF16AS / RF24AS

  • Loosen the peel plate fixing screws.
  • Set the front end of the peel plate to the reference line.
  • Adjustment is made within about 0.3 mm of groove width.
  • Tighten the screws with a torque of approximately 0.096 to 0.11 N·m.

RF32AS / RF44AS / RF56AS

  • Loosen the peel plate screws.
  • Adjust the distance from the peel plate front end to the component supply position mark.
  • Specified dimension = feed pitch ÷ 2 + 0.5 mm.
  • Tighten the screws after the setting is confirmed.
Feed Pitch Specified Dimension
56 mm 28.5 mm
52 mm 26.5 mm
48 mm 24.5 mm
44 mm 22.5 mm
40 mm 20.5 mm
36 mm 18.5 mm
32 mm 16.5 mm
28 mm 14.5 mm
24 mm 12.5 mm
20 mm 10.5 mm
16 mm 8.5 mm
12 mm 6.5 mm
8 mm 4.5 mm
4 mm 2.5 mm

Feed pitch setting and peel plate position must match.

11. Tape Loading Procedure

  1. Set the tape reel on the reel holder of the feeder or feeder stand.
  2. Insert the carrier tape into the tape feeder path on the slide rail.
  3. Align the carrier tape feeding holes with the teeth of the pull gear.
  4. Pass the cover tape through the specified tape path.
  5. Lead the cover tape over the guide roller and under the tension-related roller path as instructed.
  6. Push the pull idler arm to insert the cover tape into the pull gear area.
  7. Press the operation button so the pull gear rotates and moves the tape forward.
  8. Confirm that the tape reaches the correct supply location.
  9. Cut and secure the extra tape end according to the operating method.

12. Tape Removal Procedure

  1. Press the idler arm to prepare for tape release.
  2. Pull out the cover tape from the pull gear by about 20 mm and cut it with scissors.
  3. Hold the upper cover hook and open the upper cover.
  4. Remove the cover tape from the guide path.
  5. Remove the tape from the tape insertion slot.

13. Cover Tape Disposal

  1. Close the chamber cover if it is open, especially during production continuation or splicing work.
  2. When chamber level is correct, keep the cover properly closed.
  3. When discarding cover tape during production, cut the tape with scissors while observing the chamber handling instruction.

Pulling the cover tape too strongly may shift the component supply position. Careful handling is recommended.

14. Operation Panel

The operation panel is used for feed control and setup verification. The buttons allow the operator to advance tape by one pitch, by multiple pitches, or repeat feed-related actions depending on the selected operating mode.

Button Function Operation Summary
Feed by one pitch Used for fine setup and pick-up position checking.
Feed by two pitches Used for motion verification and feeding confirmation.
Continuous / long-press operation Enables repeated action after holding the button for a short period.
Return / reset type action Returns operation to an initial or feeder-defined state.

15. Safety Notes

  • Use the feeder only after confirming correct machine and software compatibility.
  • Do not touch moving parts during operation.
  • Some parts may become hot after extended operation.
  • Confirm that the feeder is mounted and locked correctly before use.
  • Incorrect handling can damage both the feeder and the machine.

16. Maintenance Guidance

  • Keep the tape path clean and free from dust or debris.
  • Inspect pull gear, guide rollers and tension-related parts regularly.
  • Use the specified grease only at the designated area.
  • Check fastening torque during maintenance or part replacement.
  • Reconfirm upper cover and peel plate settings whenever feed performance changes.
